Why it’s Strawberry Fields forever for the Hanser family
Nicola and Michael Hanser have lived in over 20 different homes between them over the years and never really settled in any of them until they came across Taylor Wimpey’s Strawberry Fields development in Locks Heath, near Southampton.
Now both in their 30s and with new baby Chloe, they were looking for something that would feel more like a forever home – and found it at Strawberry Fields.
Their brand new three-storey, four-bedroom ‘Ashbury’ home gives them plenty of space for their growing family and Nicola’s office – she works for a PR company from home for much of the week.
“It’s a great house,” she says. “It’s really, really pretty – they are done very nicely and the rooms are massive. It’s the size of the house that really clinched it for us.
“The space in the ‘Ashbury’ is not something we expected in a new house, and we don’t feel squashed in on the development either. We feel we’ve bought a traditional type of house, but with everything brand new.
“And having lived in 22 different properties between us while we were both renting in London, it’s great to be settled in our own house where we can stay for much longer, and enjoy Chloe growing up and being near the sea.”
It was Nicola’s brother, a mortgage advisor, who pointed the Hansers to the house of their dreams.
“He explained that we could take advantage of the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme with Taylor Wimpey,” says Nicola. “We couldn’t have done it without Help to Buy.”
The Help to Buy Equity Loan enables eligible first-time buyers and those with a property to sell to access a Government loan of up to 20% of the full price of their new home – so they only need a 75% loan-to-value mortgage and a deposit as low as 5%.
Now Nicola and Michael, a primary school teacher, are looking forward to their exciting new lifestyle in their beautiful new home!
“We didn’t want to raise children in London,” adds Nicola. “Apart from anything else it’s the expense; we were renting a small, one-bedroom flat for £1,000 a month!
“Here we’re looking out on to trees, we’re 30 seconds’ walk from a park, we’re 10 minutes from all the shops at Whiteley Shopping Centre, 10 minutes from the beach and we’re in a really good school catchment area; it’s just really good for a family. I’m very happy.
“I’d definitely recommend Strawberry Fields and the ‘Ashbury’ house – and the Taylor Wimpey office team we liaised with when we bought the house were fantastic and the follow-up from the Site Managers has been amazing.”
